'So I travelled many miles.  But the biggest journey I took was inside myself'

Helen's inspirational journey with cancer came to an end in 2010.

She was buried in the churchyard of her beloved St Mary's Church, Sawston on 15th June 2010 but continues to raise awareness of the disease that is responsible for 16,000 deaths in the UK every year.

Helen's final years were full of optimism and she threw herself into charitable work, especially with Beating Bowel Cancer, never refusing the opportunity to tell her story on local radio, newspapers and national magazines.

Helen would love you to forward this blog to help keep alive her awareness of a disease that we can all beat if we act quickly.

Thanks for reading and sharing.

Helen Crowe's charity trek to Machu Picchu PERU....Talking to Mark Peters, Star Radio

Hi Amazing People! I trekked to Macchu Picchu in May 2009! It was an amazing way of celebrating
being alive, being 50 and being able to give something back to a charity that makes a huge
difference to so many bowel cancer patients and their families (like ours).
Some of you may already know that my beloved father was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer
and is now beginning his recovery from major surgery. That's four of us now in my family
(me & both my brothers too). So yet another reminder that I must take action and continue
raising awareness (so that more people are more aware of the symptoms of the disease).
My daughter Amie, decided to do a sponsored skydive for Brain Tumour UK (watch the video
and how proud and happy I was to be with my family to watch her jump from 15,000 feet.

Helen raising awareness for Bowel Cancer in Cambridge

Helen Crowe is raising awareness for bowel cancer in this inspirational talk to a group of
Cambridgeshire business men and women. Introduced by Ann Hawkins of THE INSPIRED GROUP
Helen reveals her incredible journey post cancer which not only saved the lives of her two brothers
but was the begining of a second and most amazing life.
Husband Mikewho has himself been inspired by Helen's traumatic and amazing journey,
uses fragments of his composition ' Helen's Theme' throughout this short film.  'I was so proud of Helen's
inner strength, determination and realisation that her 'new life' was so precious, says Mike,
but this was just the first step in Helen's journey of enlightenment and I know too that
everything happens for a reason: Healing was a large part of her life and we are all aware
that Helen was making a significant difference to many people. Her light continues to shine.

Machu Picchu The Inca Trail: May 2009:

Youtube compilation of Helen's Peruvian images...

The wonderful group I accompanied on the six-day Inca-Trail trek raised over £52000 and more
money is expected to come in.
A couple of weeks after returning to Cambridge, UK. I was still suffering from 'altitude sickness'.
Mike and friend Meg took me to A & E where a scan revealed a brain tumor. Two days later another
tumour was found in my left lung as well as a blood clot in my right lung. Luckily, both cancers are
secondary and a burst of radio and chemotherapy will get both sorted.
Please learn more about the symptoms of bowel cancer here: Beating Bowel Cancer.
Thanks for reading my post.
With love,
Helen x (June 2009)
